I always wear my Marine Corps sweatshirt and I have a liscense plate that says "My heart belongs to a US Marine". Plus other things. I love to show my pride. How do you all show your pride?

I love the fact that no matter who I meet who has a loved one in the military, there's an immediate bond with that person. We just understand each other. What do you like?

First of all, I want to congratulate you on being smart. I didn't think of looking for online support until a few months ago.
To everybody who has yet to watch their love walk away for the first time: I'm not going to lie. You will question every aspect of your relationship. That's how bad it's going to hurt. You will ask yourself if it's really worth it. You will sob constantly at just little things, especially if they have any relation to your loved one. You will miss that person so bad, it will physically hurt. Your heart will literally feel like it's breaking.
But I promise, this will last no more that a couple days to a week.
If you have your mind set on breaking up because you can't handle it, wait until your first phone call. Hearing the voice of the one you love makes all of the negative feelings wash away. It makes you realize that yes, it is really worth it.
Then you see them for the first time. I've been with my boyfriend since his military beginning, so the first time I saw him was after BCT. The minimal letters, (in 10 weeks) 4 phone calls, and 0 texts. None of that mattered when I saw him at his graduation. The distance didn't matter, the lack of contact didn't matter. All that mattered what right then and there.
I have watched Patrick walk away 4 times now. I'm here to tell you, the goodbyes never get easier. But the pain gets shorter and shorter as you realize that your love really is worth every tear.
Stay strong. You can do it.
