I love the fact that no matter who I meet who has a loved one in the military, there's an immediate bond with that person. We just understand each other. What do you like?

Robbie leaves today. We have been talking about getting married when he finishes basic and gets his 5 day leave so i could live on base with him. Then someone told me that i might not be able to even if we are married. Can someone please tell me if this is true or not? And can he get like...a special leave or something to come home and get married or would he have to wait untill the next time he gets leave anyway? Someone please answer these questions if you can. This is driving me crazy. I just want to be in my baby's arms. :'(

My husband came back from deployment and we got married two weeks later one afternoon after he got off work. We went to the court house in the town we live in. Some states require you to have a marriage license for a certain time frame before you can actually get married. In GA you can obtain the license and get married in the same day. You both have to be present to obtain a marriage license though. After that then you have to get all your certificates and junk to the army and they will start putting you (the spouse) into DEERS and tricare and what not. After you are in DEERS then he will have a certain amount of time to find housing and get settled then he will receive BAH (housing allowance). It's really just a big pain in the butt lol, but worth it in the end!

Thank you. It does help. Could you tell me...kinda...how to get the ball rolling? Lol plus is there any sort of...requirements...for the wedding?

When you get married unless you have children it is usually pretty difficult to get housing on post.  It usually ends up being cheaper to live off post anyway.  As far as actually getting married, you can do that whenever you wish.  The paperwork takes awhile to get processed and his pay for being married will not take effect right away.  When my husband and I got married it took about three-four weeks for him to start getting paid as a married soldier.  Hope this helps!
