School will keep you plenty busy! Trust me. My first few weeks and his training before hand I focused on school and the time flew by! This site is also a great place. My spirits have been lifted a TON since I've joined :)!

Hey everyone! I'm gearing up for my first deployment with my marine.. First one for both of us. He'll be leaving within the next 4-5 days or so (nothing set in stone, standard military). I'm currently in an accelerated BSN program so I'm hoping school will be keeping me extra busy and keep my mind off of things. I graduate this December, right around the time he should come home (again, not set in stone so my hopes aren't up too high that he'll be home by Christmas like he thinks).

I guess it just hasn't sunk in yet. We're in a long distance relationship but I can't believe I won't get to be with him for 7-8 months or so instead of every other weekend :(

Any advice would be helpful.. not really sure what I'm looking for though, just venting I guess!

@Linda- I don't know if I could do 2 calls in 2 months. You're stronger! Things are starting to look up.... we talk daily which is great seeing as this is our first time away from each other for more than 2 weeks for the whole of our relationship. So that makes it easier. My students (Special Ed Elem) have started to learn that sometimes the only time I get to talk to him is during school hours and so they are a little more forgiving about it then at first. However, they love Justin and are always asking when he is going to come in again :(. My school is right off his base which is soooooo nice :). They have also learned that if I hear and request my phone there is a huge possibility that it's him sending me something. In fact, one girl today heard my phone and I requested it and she was like "Justin...". It wasn't but it was still cute. And I have a lot planned coming up so I'm looking forward to all of that... so things will get better I know it.

I was doing okay while I was working on finishing my school stuff but once I was done, all the emotions started to hit. He had been my biggest support through my 2 year program and he wasn't going to be at graduation so that was upsetting. Then the  next weekend was Memorial Day weekend... so that was hard. Now, I'm sick. So just one thing after another and it's made me feel down a lot lately. But in the last few days I've been slowing feeling better mainly because of being on this site. I feel more support here then I have from some of the people he works with.

@Ashley: I found that finishing my stuff (I was almost done when he left) helped pass our first month. Focus on your classes because when he comes home you're going to want to focus on him. Work for me is also almost done so doing my final stuff for that is helping distract me. So again, focus on work even if it's a crap job... it keeps the mind busy...

I been counting the weeks. Yesterday, was a month and we counted it down. When I get some time I'm going to make a countdown with blocks like those block calendars. I also have a countdown app on my phone. Since he's supposed to come home right around my birthday I have a countdown in weeks until my birthday and then a homecoming countdown in days. It makes me feel good to see the days go down...

Counting weeks helped me , they go by quicker than months so it seemed like time was going by so much faster than counting the months.

I've been sending things based on holidays in that month. And I just sent one with "little kid snacks" like fruit rollups and pop tarts and easy Mac. I put little brown bags together and sent 6 or 8 different lunch sacks with an encouraging note in each one, sealed, with his name on the outside ( just like mom used to do)
