I'm hoping to move on base as soon as I marry my fiance. He's hoping to come home in May or June and while he's home (if he's able to) we plan on doing a quick courthouse wedding so that I could just go back with him. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has lived on base here and what steps to take. Like, how does housing work and everything and what to expect as far as appliances and furniture. I know they probably don't have furniture but what about appliances? And I'm just overwhelmed with all the housing stuff haha so if anyone could be of any help at all with any advice what so ever I'd appreciate it! I just have no idea what to really expect.

It will give you the application for housing and what you'll need to submit, the info on furniture rentals and if you decide to off base, they have referral service links too. Housing does take a while to get on K-Bay because most of the houses are being torn down for remodeling and reconstruction since a lot of them are old, moldy and not up to date.
I live off base with my husband and we love it. Basically the best way to get used to living in Hawaii and learn the culture (because trust me, this is the complete OPPOSITE of anything and everything you have ever learned on the mainland) is to immerse yourself totally. Living on base kinda isolates you and you don't meet as many locals or travel that many places that aren't touristy. Also, since you are going to get about 4 times as much BAH over here as you would at a mainland station, a lot of people get a place off base and save the money that's left over from rent for gas because even on base gas stations have hit almost $4.50. And don't worry about a commute for him taking too long, traffic rush hours aren't the same here, everyone works later in the morning and gets off early and the times that my husband has to leave for work and gets off are always different than the times that people out in town have.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :)
Oh goodness, that just made me think more about this whole thing! Ha I will definitely discuss all of this with him! Thank you so much, I'll make sure I ask you if I need any more help!!
