Events

Hey y'all,
My husband will be getting orders soon for us to move to Fort Stewart. Neither if us have been to that area and do not know much about it at all. I just wanted to know if you all could tell me more about it?
How are the schools on post?
How is the PX and commissary?
How is the housing?
Are there any family events on post?
You know, the usual stuff you want to know because you pcs. Thanks so much to all of you!!!

I don't know to much about the school since I don't have children. The px and commissary are nice and decent sized. There are some new on post housing but a lot of old housing as well. I live off post because it seemed to save more money that way so I don't know to much detail about it. And they do have a lot of events planned on post especially with the summer approaching.

Hi! I also don't have kids so I don't know too much about the schools on base. The PX and Commissary are pretty small, but have everything you would need. I agree with Antoinette that there is a lot more older homes on base than new ones, the newer homes look really nice though. My husband and I choose to live off base though so we were able to afford rent, utilities and a car payment within our BAH. We met with a realtor friend of my mother in law and she showed us a 3 bedroom home off base for about $850, just to give you an idea of what you could get off base.  As far as the city of Hinesville, its really boring lol. There isn't much to do around here, and there aren't very many places to work. The nearest mall is in Savannah about 40 minutes away, as well as most of the major retail chain stores. There's a Walmart here in Hinesville with a Bath and Body Works, Radioshack and a Sports store.

Thank you so much for the responses!!! We are just so excited to be leaving Fort Wainwright, AK!!!!

I recently moved here also and I am getting to know the place.  I don't have any children either, so I cannot speak for the schools.  The commissary and the px are decent.  They have the basic things.  The housing on post looks pretty nice but I live off post as well.  My husband and I were able to find a small place about a mile off post (2 bedroom, 1 bathroom) for $650/month.  Hinesville is a nice area.  It's close to post and there are a few restaurant chains located near Walmart.  I still don't know many people yet, but it's a very nice place!
