Ok, so my boyfriend is going on deployment and its his first and our first together. I have one idea of a book I want to send him because he loves to read, but other than that I'm totally lost! What are some good ideas? He's very laid back, funny, and doesn't really dislike anything. Help!!

The first deployment i sent little games, like bop it etc, you can always send playing cards too. I also ended up sending my perfume over, the one he liked the most, and he told me after when he got home that he loved it because he sprayed it on his pillows and sheets :) Any kind of cookies that he likes, the little bags of chips, his favorite kind of candy. Esp because they miss that stuff when they're over there! Pictures of you guys :) and i always put a letter in the box too. Not sure if it will be the same but his packages would always get there quicker than the letters. If i think of anything else ill let you know!

Lol, Abigail you give the best advice on everything :) thanks for all your help in this and the messages!

Well, thank you!! You're welcome , glad I can help :)

I couldnt thing of anything either, so I overheard him talking to a friend once about a portable game that was coming out that he wanted while he was deployed, in a few weeks it will be out. So I wanted to get him that and send it over to him. But then I also thought on the way to the store to reserve it... I was listening to the music that has recently come out and started to think... Maybe he would like to hear some of the new music he's missing....

Send him a mix of new music/songs that have come out recently onto a burnable CD Even if you have different tastes in music letting him get oto know the things your into at this point in time is useful too so it doesn't feel like he's coming home to a stranger... Stick a few mix and match songs from both of your musical tastes

Hope this helps!!

Oh, and remember if you send something he cant use everything is a bargaining tool, trade one thing for another from someone ... if not for another item just for money. Ive seen people come home with a profit mainly from care packages from back home. =)

I love the idea of the music! Thanks!! :)

Pictures, pictures, pictures! I sent one of me and our 2 dogs to him which he kept next to his bed. Drink mix stuff (you know the single packet things).... i made a set of dog tags online (really cheap) that just said 'no matter where you are im always with you' .... hmmm what else? Someone mentioned music that he's missing which is cute- but maybe also a CD of songs that makes you think of him or that you too both enjoy... i know people like to send things that make them feel like kids again- silly string, play dough, stuff like that... we're coming up on another deployment so i'm starting to think ahead...

Email me at samarinewife@yahoo.com and I'll send you an email with care package ideas.  I'd be more than happy to share it with you!!!

Well first..they NEVER give them enough toilet paper, toothpaster, deodorant, beef jerkey is MUST, they love getting cookies. Also, what I have sent my soldier was cards, a nurf football and a frisby to play with his buddies on his down time. :) Chapstick, aleve...anything. And Tang so they can put it in there water. They get sick of just drinking water.

I've been sending themed packages every month. For example, his September box (which gets mailed in about a week) includes a Nerf football, some cheese dip and chips, buffalo chicken jerky bites, pizza Pringles, twizzlers, rice krispy treats... basically all the junk food (or mail-able versions of them) that I'd serve at my weekly football parties! And I got him a new Broncos t-shirt (our home team) and a CU Buffs t-shirt (my university). October will be a box just chock full of candy and crap for Halloween haha!

When LB went on his deployment, we knew it would be about a year so I sent him a mason jar with 365 reasons I loved him...one on each paper.  He was able to read one a day and would put it in his journal and write something he loved about me.

I also sent him sexy patriotic photos of me. I trusted that he wouldn't show them to anyone else and he didn't.  It really helped him because it reminded him what he was fighting for!

If you have a Michaels or other craft store near you, they have great fun little activity books, figurines and other random little things that can cost less than a dollar for fun little items to pack in the box. Dollar Stores also have fun random items that he can share with buddies for a good laugh. I found my friend a bunch of Disney Pricesess items (inside joke) that will get added periodicly to her boxes.
